Regent questioned on graft case
KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Timor Tengah Selatan Regent Daniel Banunaek will be questioned by the East Nusa Tenggara Police on Saturday as a suspect in a Rp 1.4 billion embezzlement case in the regency's 1999-2004 budget.
Director of East Nusa Tenggara Police crime unit, Adj. Sr. Comr. Mochamad Iriawan, disclosed the plan on Friday, saying President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had sent a letter to grant permission for the questioning to take place.
"We've told Regent Daniel Banunaek and he said he's ready to be questioned over the case," he said.
Police, he said, had not prepared any special team to question the former councilor from the Golkar Party, saying he would only be questioned by investigators in charge of corruption cases. -- Antara
