Regent nabbed with fake diploma

PEKANBARU, Riau: Police here said on Tuesday they have named
Kampar Regent Djefri Noer of Riau province a suspect for
allegedly possessing a counterfeit diploma.

"Djefri Noer has officially been declared a suspect in the
case of a fake diploma," Riau Police chief Brig. Gen. Deddy
Sutardi Komaruddin said.

He said the charges against the regent were the result of a
police investigation into several other people.

"Last Friday, he (Djefri) was summoned for questioning as a
suspect but failed to show up, citing health problems," Deddy
said, adding that police had sent him a second summons to appear
for questioning on Thursday.

Deddy said police would arrest the regent should he defy a
third summons.

Djefri is charged with using a fake university diploma to win
the Kampar regent election. --Antara
