Regent Iron Requests Debt Write-off for the Extremely Poor at Selaparang Finansial
The Regent of East Lombok, Haerul Warisin, has highlighted the issue of bad debts at Selaparang Finansial. He has requested that the debts of the extremely poor recorded in the regional company be written off, provided they undergo a rigorous verification process.
The Regent, affectionately known as Iron, stated that the debt cancellation cannot be carried out arbitrarily. According to him, the policy is strictly intended for those living in extreme poverty. “If those who are in debt are members of the extremely poor community, I request that it be erased, but it must go through verification,” Iron said after attending the accountability meeting of the regional-owned enterprise on Wednesday (20/05/2026).
Iron noted that the remaining receivables at Selaparang Finansial have reached billions of rupiah. He believes this situation hinders efforts to revitalise the regional company. “It can clutter the balance sheet. We want to make this company healthy. Therefore, if these old matters are causing the bookkeeping to look poor, it is better to simply erase them,” said Iron.
In addition to addressing bad debts, Iron requested that the management of PD Agro Selaparang expand its operations into the food sector, including commodities such as rice, salt, and shrimp paste. He believes this move is essential to boost the company’s profits while simultaneously meeting the needs of the community. “With our large population, people need food; it is important that we meet that need. From a demand perspective, we must identify what is needed, and if it can be profitable for the company, we can serve our community more cheaply and easily,” Iron added.
Furthermore, the Regent plans to increase the capital of PD Agro Selaparang by Rp 1.5 billion. This capital injection will be provided in the form of goods and necessary production machinery. “We will increase the capital later, but it will be in the form of goods and production machinery,” Iron concluded.
