Regent hopeful detained for forgery
Ambon, Maluku: A regent hopeful in West Seram regency was
detained by the police on Friday for allegedly forging his
diploma.
A preliminary investigation found that Soebeno included an
allegedly forged vocational high school diploma when registering
as a regent candidate.
"Police have checked the 75 vocational high schools in
Purwokerto, Central Java, but the schools all said they never had
a student named Soebeno," said Comr. Bambang Hermanu of the
Maluku Police.
Soebeno, who was nominated by the Golkar Party, claimed to
have graduated from a vocational high school in Purwokerto.
The regency election in West Seram was scheduled for Aug. 2,
but the election has now been delayed indefinitely until
Soebeno's case is settled. -- JP
