Regent of Klaten Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo dispatched 11 buses to collect 550 participants in the free mudik (homebound travel) programme at Terminal Ir Soekarno in Klaten. The dispatch of buses to pick up migrant residents from Klaten in Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) on Saturday, 14 March, was attended by officials from Klaten Regency Government, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the National Police.

Eleven buses were sent to Jakarta, with 10 prepared by the Klaten Regency Government and one supported by PT Tirta Investama. “These free mudik buses will collect hundreds of migrant residents in Greater Jakarta who hold Klaten ID cards and work in the non-formal sector,” said Hamenang.

To transport residents from Klaten Regency in the Greater Jakarta area, the Central Java Provincial Government also provided support for five buses. “Thus, a total of 16 buses are operational to transport migrants returning home during the Eid al-Fitr 2026 holiday period,” he added.

According to Hamenang, the buses were dispatched to the free mudik departure point at TMII Jakarta, with buses scheduled to arrive in Klaten on 17 March 2026. The Head of Klaten Transportation Office, Supriyono, explained that the capacity of 11 buses dispatched to Jakarta totalled 550 people. “So each bus will carry 50 free mudik passengers or according to seating capacity. Each bus is also escorted by personnel from the Klaten Transportation Office,” he said.

Regarding free mudik arrangements, the Transportation Office previously opened registration by collaborating with community associations of Klaten residents abroad. “For safety, the free mudik collection buses have undergone technical inspections (ramp checks) including health checks for drivers,” explained Supriyono.

A total of 480 free mudik passengers transported by 10 buses provided by Klaten Regency Government arrived safely at Terminal Ir Soekarno in Klaten on Wednesday, 26 March, in the evening. Regent Klaten Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo and Deputy Regent Benny Indra Ardianto sent off 10 free mudik buses for Klaten residents in Greater Jakarta on Monday, 24 March, in the evening.

Railway ticket sales during the Eid transport period also showed an increasing trend. By Sunday, 15 March, at 6 pm or six days before Eid, ticket sales reached 214,624 tickets. At Pasar Senen Station on Sunday, 15 March, in the evening, passenger queues were seen extending in the ticket inspection and platform entrance areas. Garut Police Chief AKBP Yugi Bayu Hendarto stated that implementation of a one-way system was being carried out to ease traffic congestion on the Limbangan to Malangbong route.

To ensure travel safety, the National Police Chief emphasised that technical vehicle inspection (ramp check) and health checks for bus drivers are top priorities. The figure represents an increase of approximately 11.3% compared with traffic volume during the same period the previous day.
