Regent asks BPS to map business potential of Kepulauan Seribu through census

Regent of Kepulauan Seribu Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan has asked the local Central Statistics Agency (BPS) to map the best business potential in the island district of DKI Jakarta Province through the 2026 Economic Census, which takes place from 15 June to 31 August 2026. “The 2026 Economic Census is a crucial national statistical agenda, and its results will become the primary foundation for formulating various development policies and strengthening the regional economy,” Fadjar said in Jakarta on Monday. He assessed that accurate and high-quality data is essential for mapping business development, changes in economic structure, and the potential of leading sectors in Kepulauan Seribu. According to him, the success of this census depends heavily on the quality of data collected by field officers. That data, he said, serves as the spearhead and representation of BPS when dealing directly with business actors. “Officers must be able to communicate well and guarantee the confidentiality of respondent data; public trust is the key to producing accurate data,” he said. The Regent of Kepulauan Seribu officially dispatched thirty 2026 Economic Census officers who will conduct business data collection in the Kepulauan Seribu region on Friday (12/6). Meanwhile, Head of BPS DKI Jakarta Province Kadarmanto acknowledged that the results of this decennial census will support Jakarta’s transformation into a global city. Kadarmanto explained that the data will serve as a reference for increasing investment and economic competitiveness. “Our target is to bring Jakarta into the top twenty global cities in the world by 2045. Officers are the front line of our national data quality,” he said.
