Regent: All fire points at Bogor's Galuga landfill extinguished by Tuesday afternoon

At 14.17 WIB (Western Indonesian Time), nearly all of the large fire points had been extinguished. No flames can be seen, although thick smoke is still rising.

Bogor Regency, West Java (ANTARA) — Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto has stated that the fire burning at the Galuga final disposal site (TPA) in Cibungbulang was successfully extinguished on Tuesday afternoon.

“At 14.17 WIB, nearly all of the large fire points had been extinguished. As you can see, there are no more flames, but there is still very thick smoke,” said Rudy while leading the extinguishing operation in Bogor on Tuesday.

He said officers are now focusing on cooling operations, as smoke continues to billow from several points within the area.

The cooling process involves turning over the piles of waste using heavy machinery, then spraying them with water to lower the temperature and prevent the fire from reigniting.

The fire burned for approximately 22 hours, having first broken out on Monday (7/9) at around 16.00 WIB. The flames grew larger at midnight before being brought under control at around 03.30 WIB.

Regent Rudy previously explained that the fire began on farmland adjacent to the Galuga disposal site, before spreading to the old waste disposal area that is no longer in use.

Rudy also took a turn spraying water for several minutes to boost the morale of officers who had been working since the previous day.

“I know everyone is tired and exhausted, but my colleagues are still standing, fighting, and carrying out their duties,” said Regent Rudy.

He expressed hope that the cooling process could be completed quickly so that the smoke subsides, the fire does not reignite, and the blaze causes no further impact on the surrounding community.
