Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Thousand Islands Regency Government is striving to optimise regional revenue through tax education for the island communities via the Tax Policy Dissemination and Extension Activity (PBB-P2). “The activity aims to enhance understanding and compliance among taxpayers,” said the Regent of the Thousand Islands, Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan, in Jakarta on Monday. According to him, this initiative serves as an important initial step to increase awareness and compliance among taxpayers. “It also strengthens ties between the government and taxpayers, who are the primary contributors to Original Local Revenue,” he stated. Fadjar mentioned that the activity also involved socialising the PBB-P2 relief policies established by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. He explained that the relief includes discounts of up to 50 percent on long-term arrears with the waiver of fines, as well as phased reductions for payments in the current year 2026. He urged taxpayers to take advantage of this relief programme, especially those with outstanding arrears, to avoid accumulating tax burdens. The government also reminded that there are administrative sanctions for taxpayers who fail to meet their obligations, ranging from late payment fines to active collection in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Meanwhile, Deputy Head of the DKI Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency, Elvarinsa, explained that the activity aims to socialise the Governor of DKI Jakarta’s Decree Number 339 of 2026 regarding PBB-P2 policies. According to him, the policy is expected to ease the burden on the public in paying taxes. Elvarinsa explained that this policy also serves as a regional fiscal strategy to maintain people’s purchasing power amid global economic pressures, while ensuring the continuity of regional revenues. He hoped that this activity would encourage support and cooperation from taxpayers, both individuals and business entities, in fulfilling their local tax payment obligations. “May this activity run smoothly and provide benefits to us all,” he said.
