Regency government encourages grouper fish farming development in Thousand Islands

The Seribu Islands Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Sub-agency is encouraging the development of cantang grouper aquaculture undertaken by a number of residents in the island regency.

“We will continue to support the development of aquaculture businesses through guidance and assistance to fish farming groups,” said Gama Eka Anantha, Head of the Marine and Fisheries Section at the Seribu Islands KPKP Sub-agency, in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to him, the Mandiri Fish Farming Group from Kelapa Dua Island, Kelapa Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands District, successfully harvested 459 kilograms of cantang grouper, or around 500 fish.

The harvest serves as an indicator of the community’s success in developing aquaculture businesses. It demonstrates that the cantang grouper farming activities carried out by the Mandiri Fish Farming Group are progressing well.

“We hope these results can continue to be improved, so as to provide economic benefits for group members,” said Gama.

The successful harvest is expected to strengthen the aquaculture fisheries sector. “This also enhances the economic independence of coastal communities in the Seribu Islands,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kelapa Island Urban Village Head Muhammad Adriansyah assessed that the harvest by the Mandiri Fish Farming Group proves that residents are able to utilise marine resource potential productively.

“Hopefully this harvest will motivate other residents to develop productive and sustainable fisheries businesses,” he said.
