Regency Government Accelerates Maintenance of Clean Water Supply Infrastructure

The Kepulauan Seribu Regency administration is accelerating the maintenance of clean water supply infrastructure, specifically Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) and Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) systems, to ensure water availability across the island chain. Assistant for Economic and Development Administration Endro Mukti Wibowo stated on Monday that the acceleration involves PAM JAYA assisting with facility management and equipment replacement. The administration is committed to providing adequate clean water for the community through properly functioning SWRO and BWRO units. Endro noted that the readiness of these systems is a key concern for meeting residents’ water needs. The regency government, together with PAM JAYA and the Kepulauan Seribu Water Resources Sub-agency, regularly monitors the operation of the SWRO and BWRO facilities to maintain optimal performance. Continuous communication with PAM JAYA is also maintained to ensure smooth operation across all inhabited islands without obstacles. Endro added that equipment rejuvenation is being carried out to ensure the community’s clean water requirements continue to be met. Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan previously stated that clean water supply remains a primary challenge in Kepulauan Seribu, noting that the existence of SWRO technology is essential for residents. He explained that while they have relied on support from the Water Resources Sub-agency and PAM JAYA, capacity is inherently limited. The SWRO technology, which purifies seawater, can produce 1,867 litres of water per day, with an allocation of 64 litres per day per resident, while BWRO technology is used to purify brackish water into drinking water. These facilities are located on seven inhabited islands: Harapan, Kelapa, Karya, Panggang, Tidung, Lancang, and Untung Jawa, with capacities varying according to the needs of each community.
