Regency Completes Repair of Breakwater Embankment on Kelapa Dua Island
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Water Resources Sub-Department (Sudin SDA) of the Thousand Islands Regency has completed the repair of the breakwater embankment that collapsed due to high tides on the northern side of RT 01/01, Kelapa Dua Island, North Thousand Islands. “The repairs were carried out to protect the coastal area from the threat of abrasion while providing a sense of security for nearby residents,” said the Head of the Water Resources Sub-Department (Kasudin SDA) of the Thousand Islands, Mustajab, in Jakarta on Tuesday. He explained that the damage occurred several months ago due to high waves and tides, causing the massive cubes composing the embankment to shift. He detailed that the repair of the approximately 100-metre embankment involved five personnel from the Blue Troops. The work began on 7 May 2026 and has now been fully completed. The repairs involved tying hollow cubes to the breakwater as a form of structural reinforcement to prevent the cube arrangement from being easily dislodged by strong sea waves. “This reinforcement is intended to enable the embankment to function more optimally in withstanding sea waves,” he said. He hopes that the strengthened embankment will protect residential areas on Kelapa Dua Island from the impacts of high tides and abrasion. “We also urge the community to jointly maintain this coastal protection facility to ensure it continues to function well and sustainably,” he added.
