Regency committees refuse campaign schedule

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: The regency election committees across the province have rejected a campaigning schedule drawn up by the provincial elections committee because of its severe time limitation.

Chief of the Central Lombok committee M. Ikrom told reporters on Monday that each of the 37 parties registered here were given only five rounds of campaigning, Antara reported.

Ikrom, who is also a representative of People's Sovereignty Party (PDR), said the parties had twice met and now agreed to hold seven rounds of campaigning instead.

The chairman of the provincial election committee, M. Taqiuddin, separately said his office would agree to changes as long as they did not cause problems. (swe)
