Regarding the Summoning of Nusron Wahid, KPK: We Are Focusing First on Examining Hajj Bureaus
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has responded to questions about the possible summoning of Nusron Wahid, Chairman of the DPR RI’s 2024 Special Hajj Inquiry Committee, for examination in the investigation into alleged corruption regarding hajj quotas. KPK stated that it will focus first on examining the hajj organising bureaus.
“Yes, we are focusing first on the examination of PIHK (special hajj organisers or hajj bureaus, ed.),” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Friday.
Budi explained that KPK is currently focusing on examining hajj bureaus in the investigation of the hajj quota case because it wants to delve deeper into the distribution of 10,000 special hajj quotas that originated from the allocation of 20,000 additional hajj quotas for 1445 Hijriah/2024 CE, with 50 percent for regular hajj and 50 percent for special hajj.
Nevertheless, he said that KPK remains open to the possibility of exploring allegations of money demands from the 2024 Hajj Special Committee of the DPR to parties in the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
“Yes, such information will certainly still be delved into, especially in relation to the main framework of this case,” he stated.
Previously, on 9 August 2025, KPK initiated the investigation into alleged corruption related to hajj quotas for Indonesia in 2023–2024.
On 9 January 2026, KPK announced former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex, as special staff to Yaqut, as suspects in the case.
Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, owner of BPH Maktour, was not designated as a suspect, although he was once banned from leaving the country.
KPK then announced on 4 March 2026 that the state financial loss amounted to Rp622 billion.
Subsequently, on 12 March 2026, KPK detained Yaqut Cholil at the KPK’s Red and White Building State Detention House Branch. On 17 March 2026, KPK also detained Ishfah Abidal Aziz at the KPK’s Central Anti-Corruption Education Detention House Branch.
On the same date, Yaqut Cholil’s family submitted a request for the former Minister of Religious Affairs to be placed under house arrest.
KPK granted the request, so Yaqut has been under house arrest since 19 March 2026. However, on 24 March 2026, KPK re-detained Yaqut at the KPK Detention House after previously processing the change in detention status.
KPK then designated two new suspects on 30 March 2026, namely Maktour’s Operational Director Ismail Adham and the General Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Tour Travel Association (Kesthuri) Asrul Aziz Taba.
