Regarding the Purchase of Electric Motorcycles for BGN, Purbaya Cuts Budget, Dadan Reveals the Reasons

The government has confirmed that it will not proceed with the procurement of electric motorcycles for the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) in 2026, after the purchase was previously carried out using the 2025 budget. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa emphasised that the procurement of these operational vehicles is no longer included in the current year’s spending allocation. “Yes, last year’s budget, not this year. We ensure there is none; it was last year. At that time, it might have slipped through, so we stopped it,” Purbaya stated at the Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Purbaya added that the decision to halt was made after his side became aware of the procurement in the previous budget structure. Purbaya stressed that the budget cut was implemented immediately upon receiving the information. “When I found out, I cut the budget,” he asserted. Thus, he assured that there is no longer any fund allocation for the purchase of BGN electric motorcycles this year. He also mentioned that the previous procurement was likely already paid for using last year’s budget. “Yes, (21,000 electric motorcycles using) last year’s budget, they must have already paid for it. Just ask the BGN Chair about the status,” Purbaya added. On the other hand, the Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Dadan Hindayana, explained that the procurement of these electric motorcycles had an operational purpose, specifically to support the distribution of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. According to Dadan, the vehicles are needed to reach difficult-to-access areas, including villages that cannot be traversed by four-wheeled vehicles. “This programme reaches areas that will be very difficult to access later. Reaching villages and areas that can only be reached by motorcycle. That’s to support operations,” Dadan said at the Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Dadan added that the use of electric motorcycles is not limited to the Heads of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG), but can also be utilised by other employees in supporting field operations. Nevertheless, Dadan assured that the vehicle procurement will not continue this year.
