The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has responded to the proposal regarding the establishment of a mineral and strategic commodities exchange in Indonesia. However, he admitted that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has not yet discussed the details of this plan, as the government is still searching for the right formula before proceeding further.

“We have not yet conducted detailed discussions regarding the mineral exchange. We are still looking for the right formula,” Bahlil stated at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 8 June 2026. Consequently, Bahlil ensured that the plan to form a mineral exchange will not be realised in the near future, as there are various aspects that require more in-depth discussion.

It is noted that the proposal for a domestic mineral exchange was previously discussed by the Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. This is due to the fact that many of Indonesia’s commodities currently rely on overseas exchanges, despite Indonesia being a primary producer of these resources. The proposed mineral exchange would fall under the supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK). Through the expansion of OJK’s authority in the revision of the P2SK Law, new duties have been regulated for the OJK regarding the regulation and supervision of mineral exchanges and strategic commodities. Therefore, the supervisory structure within the OJK will be expanded to monitor the operations of the mineral exchange, including the appointment of specialised OJK officials to oversee minerals and strategic commodities.
