Regarding the Procurement of Official Vehicles Worth IDR 8.5 Billion, the Governor of East Kalimantan: 'Surely, We Can't Just Settle for Anything'
The procurement of new official vehicles for the Governor of East Kalimantan has sparked controversy amidst the regional government’s ongoing budget efficiency policies. The procurement of new official vehicles for the Governor of East Kalimantan, Rudy Mas’ud, is known to have reached IDR 8.5 billion.
Regarding the IDR 8.5 billion budget for purchasing official vehicles, the Governor of East Kalimantan, Rudy Mas’ud, has spoken out. He explained that, to date, he has not received the official vehicle.
“Regarding the vehicle, the East Kalimantan Provincial Government has not yet provided a vehicle for use in East Kalimantan. So, there is no vehicle; what exists today is a private vehicle being used. The East Kalimantan Provincial Government’s vehicle is only available in Jakarta. Why in Jakarta? First, it is to support activities that support the activities of the regional head,” he said, quoted from the Instagram account Lambe Turah, Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
Rudy explained that the official vehicle would later be used to support the regional head’s activities at the national level. Rudy emphasized that East Kalimantan’s position as a buffer zone for the State Capital (IKN) means that the regional head of East Kalimantan often receives guests. Therefore, according to him, the official vehicle cannot be of poor quality, considering that the official vehicle represents the dignity of a region.
“East Kalimantan is the capital of the archipelago, East Kalimantan is a miniature of Indonesia. The guests of East Kalimantan are not only regional heads from all over Indonesia but also from around the world. Surely, the regional head cannot use a poor-quality vehicle. Let’s maintain the dignity of East Kalimantan; this is the dignity of East Kalimantan, the dignity of the people of East Kalimantan,” he said.
Meanwhile, regarding the budget for the official vehicle worth IDR 8.5 billion, Rudy emphasized that the procurement of the official vehicle is in accordance with Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 7 of 2006. The Minister of Home Affairs Regulation regulates the number of cc for vehicles for regional heads.
“In accordance with Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 7 of 2006, the procurement of vehicles for regional heads is 3,000 cc, for Jeeps, 4,200 cc. The vehicle we procured is 3,000 cc. Regarding the price, you get what you pay for; there is quality, and there is a price. We are not concerned with the price; we only order the vehicle according to the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation,” he said.
