Regarding the Discourse on Forming an Export Agency, Here is Purbaya's Response
Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has addressed reports suggesting that the government intends to form an Export Agency. According to circulating rumours, the Export Agency is expected to take on the role of managing specific export commodities, such as palm oil, coal, and several other minerals.
When questioned about the discourse regarding the formation of the Export Agency, Purbaya stated that he was not fully aware of the details. He noted that President Prabowo Subianto himself would be the one to announce such a development to the public.
“I do not know. The President will announce it later,” Purbaya said at the Ministry of Finance, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.
As information, President Prabowo is reportedly scheduled to attend the plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, to deliver a speech regarding the Macroeconomic Framework and Fiscal Policy Guidelines (KEMPPKF) for the 2027 State Budget Draft (RAPBN). Rumours suggest that the announcement regarding the formation of the Export Agency may be made by Prabowo during that session.
According to the circulating discourse, exporters would be required to sell certain commodities to the Export Agency, which would then facilitate their export to overseas buyers or markets. Some market participants have already signalled concerns that this specialised agency could potentially increase pressure on certain issuers in the capital market, add to export bureaucracy, and squeeze corporate margins.
