Regarding Gifts in Purbaya and His Son's TikTok Live Stream, KPK: If in Doubt, Please Report
The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has advised Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, who received gifts during a live TikTok broadcast with his son, to consult with or report to the KPK should he have any doubts as to whether the gifts constitute gratification.
“Nevertheless, if there is still any doubt, you are welcome to consult or report to the KPK,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the Red-White Building of the KPK in South Jakarta on Friday, 27 February 2026.
Budi stated that the KPK had monitored the live stream. During the broadcast, Purbaya had emphasised that accepting gifts was prohibited given his status as a state official.
“First of all, we express our appreciation and thanks, because in the broadcast, the Minister has already demonstrated concern and awareness regarding the potential for gratification,” said Budi.
In the live stream, the recipient was Purbaya’s son, who is the owner of the TikTok account. Budi assessed that Purbaya’s son has no connection to his father’s work since he is not a state official.
“In this context, we see that the recipient is his son. There is no connection or relationship to the duties, functions, and position of his father as Minister and as a state official,” explained Budi.
Nevertheless, the KPK has advised Purbaya to report directly if there is any doubt. The KPK will follow up on the report, including providing advice to the Finance Minister if requested.
“Because naturally, every report will be analysed by us, and the results of that analysis will determine whether it belongs to the recipient or to the state,” said Budi.
