Regarding Dino Patti Djalal's Criticism of Prabowo, PDIP: Ideally, Ministers Should Respond
The Chairman of the Central Leadership Council for Membership and Organisation of the PDIP, Andreas Hugo Pareira, has highlighted the government’s attitude in responding to criticisms raised by former Deputy Foreign Minister Dino Patti Djalal regarding presidential visits. He stated that while the government has the right to respond and prepare substantive rebuttals, it would be better if issues concerning overseas visits were addressed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the relevant technical ministry.
“This would allow the public to understand the workings and performance of Indonesia’s political diplomacy and foreign affairs,” said Andreas at the DPR, MPR, and DPD Complex on Tuesday, 2 June 2026. He continued that what Dino conveyed to President Prabowo Subianto is essentially ‘vitamin’ intended to help build a better path for the administration. He added that Dino Patti Djalal’s background should be taken into consideration, as the former Indonesian Ambassador to the United States is a figure with extensive experience in the field of foreign diplomacy. “What he conveys, in my opinion, deserves consideration,” said the Vice Chairman of Commission XIII of the DPR.
Through a video posted on his Instagram account, the founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia, Dino Patti Djalai, presented five suggestions to President Prabowo Subianto, criticising the President’s frequent travels abroad. Dino stated that the Indonesian people are asking Prabowo to significantly reduce overseas trips and not to underestimate the public’s concerns regarding this matter. According to his calculations, among all world leaders, Prabowo is recorded as the head of state who travels abroad most frequently. He noted that during his presidency, Prabowo has spent one out of every six days abroad, leading some to describe these official overseas trips as unusual. He also expressed certainty that in the next 18 months, Prabowo will continue to conduct international visits at a similarly high frequency. “Visits by a head of state abroad incur large, even very large, costs,” Dino remarked.
In response to Dino’s criticism regarding Prabowo’s overseas travels, Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that some of the President’s international travel agendas are prepared even a year in advance. However, there are also urgent visits that must be adjusted according to domestic and global developments. “The global situation is very dynamic, day by day. Therefore, there are annual schedules and there are urgent schedules based on the domestic and international needs of a country,” Teddy said via a video statement on Monday, 1 June 2026.
