Regarding Carriage Positions, PT KAI Assures No Differentiation in Passenger Safety
PT KAI has assured that it does not differentiate the level of safety between female and male passengers on KRL trains. KAI emphasised that safety is the top priority.
This was stated by PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin during a press conference at Bekasi Timur Station, West Java, on Wednesday (29/4/2026). Initially, Bobby announced that the Cikarang-Jakarta KRL route would resume operations that afternoon with the same number of trains and trips as before.
“This afternoon, we will reopen our KRL service on the Cikarang line, which will operate with the same frequency as before,” said Bobby, as quoted by detikNews.
Bobby then stated that KAI prioritises passenger safety. He assured that KAI does not differentiate between male and female passengers regarding safety.
“We also need to emphasise that safety is our top priority. We have zero tolerance for violating or reducing the safety level for customers using PT Kereta Api Indonesia services, whether male or female,” he explained.
Women’s Carriage Position
Bobby also explained the position of the special women’s carriages, which are located at the very front and rear of the KRL train set. Regarding this, Bobby said the placement is for convenience.
“So far, we have prioritised women for comfort, ease of access, and of course security inside the train as well,” he said.
He continued that the position of the special women’s carriages is placed at the very front and back due to several considerations.
“Regarding the women’s carriages, as I mentioned earlier, we do not differentiate the safety level between female and male genders,” he stated.
He explained that the special women’s carriages have been prepared so far to prevent harassment. In addition, the position of the special women’s carriages at the front and back is the closest to security personnel.
“So far, we have implemented this separation due to several aspects. The first aspect is to prevent harassment. The second is to provide ease of access for women. The third is to provide better security because it is closer to the guards at the ends,” he clarified.
President Prabowo’s Instructions
On that occasion, Bobby also said that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered improvements to railway level crossings with roads. He said KAI will repair official crossings and close illegal crossings that do not meet safety standards.
For information, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train collided with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (27/4) night. The incident resulted in 15 deaths and 88 injuries.
All the victims were women because the Argo Bromo Anggrek locomotive hit the special women’s carriage at the very rear of the KRL train set. After the incident, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi proposed moving the women’s carriages to the middle.
“But with this incident, we propose that if possible, the women’s carriages be placed in the middle,” said Arifah to reporters after visiting the victims at Bekasi General Hospital on Tuesday (28/4).
