Regarding Cabinet Reshuffle, UGM Expert: The Public is Waiting for New Breakthroughs
A sociologist from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Arie Sujito, believes that a cabinet reshuffle by the President should not merely be about rearranging official positions. The reshuffle must be capable of addressing real problems and the hopes of the community.
“If the President conducts a reshuffle, it certainly must not just be about discussing the arrangement of people, but much more than that—connecting problems with public expectations,” Arie Sujito stated in Yogyakarta on Friday.
The Vice Rector of UGM for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni noted that recent cabinet reshuffles have not yet signalled any major leaps capable of addressing the demands or concerns of the wider public.
According to him, the public is still monitoring the effectiveness of reshuffles in several ministerial positions and high-ranking state officials, including the replacement of the Chief of National Police and shifts within ministerial ranks.
“People are speculating whether there are signs of a ‘clean-up’ and so on. However, what we need to see is whether there are new breakthroughs, and whether this ‘reshuffle’ is connected to the problems that have been the public’s demand all this time,” said Arie.
