Regarding Allegations of Racist Remarks by Bro Ron, Attacker's Lawyer: No Intention to Insult
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The legal representative of the perpetrator who assaulted Deputy General Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Ronald A. Sinaga, alias Bro Ron, stated that the victim had uttered racially tinged remarks during the altercation at the MPP law firm office in Menteng, Central Jakarta.
Nevertheless, after both parties sat down together for mediation, it was revealed that the statement had no context or intention to insult any particular ethnic group or race.
“Regarding the racism issue, we need to set the record straight as it has been widely circulated. In the mediation process, discussions, and clarifications we conducted, we found the fact that there were indeed words that, if understood without context, could be seen as tending towards that,” Tegar told reporters at the Menteng Metro Police Sector office on Thursday (7/5/2026).
“With this meeting, context was provided, so we could understand that the intention was not in that direction (insult), thus allowing this peace to take place,” Tegar explained.
Tegar also corrected the mistaken assumption from Bro Ron’s side, who had previously thought his clients’ arrival at the scene was as hired thugs.
“Bro Ron misunderstood that these friends came not with the intentions as accused so far, not thuggery, not hired muscle. Of course, we do not condone violence in any form,” he emphasised.
The legal team conveyed an apology for the violent actions that had already occurred due to the misunderstanding.
“We also express our apologies because some of our younger colleagues have carried out such actions. We have reached the point where we forgive each other and withdraw the reports. We are both gracious about it. Bro Ron withdraws his report, and we withdraw ours,” he said.
“The most important emphasis is that the trigger was indeed the utterance of those words, but the context—that’s what was missed. After it was explained and so on, we understood, and yes, we have resolved it,” Abdul stated.
When asked for more details about the origin of those words, Tegar said it was purely due to emotions on the ground when the audience heated up.
However, he declined to explain in detail what the exact words were and how the explanation went during the mediation between the two parties.
“That’s the situation on the ground, both emotional. Then there were emotional sentences that might have been misunderstood and became the trigger for all this. That’s it,” he said.
