Regarded as Opposing Dedi Mulyadi Over Mining Closure Controversy, Bogor Regent Provides Explanation
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR – Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto has clarified his statements regarding the controversy over the temporary closure of mining activities in the western region of Bogor Regency, which some parties view as resistance against West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi’s policies. According to Rudy, he has never intended to oppose the governor or anyone else, nor the provincial government’s policies on mining activities.
“The main point is that there is no intention at all to oppose the governor or anyone,” said Rudy on Friday (8/5/2026).
He stated that the remarks he made while receiving a protest action by thousands of residents some time ago should be understood in their entirety and not taken out of context. When receiving the protesting crowd at the Bogor Regency Government complex, Rudy was accompanied by Deputy Regent of Bogor Ade Ruhandi and Chairman of the Bogor Regency DPRD Sastra Winara.
On that occasion, Rudy admitted that he deliberately met the protesting crowd directly because the residents requested to dialogue only with him as the regent.
“At that time, the residents only wanted to be met by the regent. Therefore, I did not want my community to clash with other parties. Maintaining conduciveness is important for us to uphold together,” he said.
He stated that the Bogor Regency Government continues to encourage all residents to keep the situation safe and not act anarchically amid the ongoing mining controversy.
“We invite all present residents to commit to maintaining conduciveness and not acting anarchically. We do not want any clashes between residents and security forces,” he emphasised.
