President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed his commitment to reforming law enforcement apparatus, including Polri and TNI, to strengthen the nation’s foundations and enhance public trust.

According to him, the reform is not limited to a single institution but encompasses all state apparatus involved in law enforcement.

“What I want to do is transform the nation; I want to improve the nation’s condition in all aspects, including the law enforcement instruments,” said Prabowo in a dialogue with several figures and journalists at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor, quoted from a press release by the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom) RI, on Sunday (22/3).

Prabowo stated that the existence of professional and integrity-driven law enforcement institutions is an absolute requirement for a strong and successful nation.

“Law, the rule of law, is an important part of a strong and successful nation,” he said.

He assured that there will be no tolerance for law violations, including those committed by state apparatus.

Prabowo warned that actions by rogue elements can damage trust in the institutions as a whole.

“Perhaps some rogue elements have power and can act as they please, but hundreds of thousands of other police officers get a bad name,” he said.

Prabowo will give each institution the opportunity to make internal improvements.

However, if there is no change, the government will take firm steps.

“First, I want to give each institution the chance to clean itself up. Can you fix yourself? If you fix yourself, I’ll give you the chance,” he said.

Furthermore, he also highlighted the importance of oversight in the field, including against illegal practices that should be preventable by apparatus. For example, in mining cases.

He questioned the apparatus who are unaware of illegal mining in their areas.

“How can there be illegal mining when the babinsa doesn’t know, the danramil doesn’t know, the kodim doesn’t know, the dandim doesn’t know?” he said.

He stated that actions against law-breaking apparatus are not new and have been done before.

Prabowo mentioned that there are generals who have been processed for breaking the law.

“You can see how many generals, three-star, two-star, that we have dismissed and handed over to the prosecutor’s office,” he said.
