JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto is committed to reforming the law enforcement sector, including Polri and TNI. According to Prabowo, this is necessary as an effort to strengthen the foundations of the state and increase public trust. “What I want to do is transform the nation, I want to improve the condition of the nation in all aspects, including the law enforcement apparatus,” said Prabowo, in a dialogue with several figures and journalists in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, quoted from a press release by the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom) RI, Sunday (22/3/2026). Prabowo stated that reform is not limited to just one institution, but to all state apparatus with the authority to enforce the law. Because if there are rogue elements who violate the law, it can damage trust in the institution as a whole. “Perhaps some rogue elements have power, they can do whatever they want, but hundreds of thousands of other police officers get a bad name,” he explained. The Head of State also gives each institution the opportunity to make internal improvements. However, if it ultimately results in no change, Prabowo does not hesitate to take firm steps. “First, I want to give each agency the chance to clean itself up. Can you fix yourself? If you fix yourself, I will give you a chance,” he said. “You can see how many generals, three-star, two-star, that we have dismissed and handed over to the prosecutor’s office,” said Prabowo. On the same occasion, President Prabowo also highlighted the importance of supervision in the field. Do not let illegal practices go unchecked by the apparatus. For Prabowo, the existence of professional and integrity-filled law enforcement institutions is an absolute requirement for a strong and successful state. “Law, the rule of law, is an important part of a strong and successful state,” he stressed.
