Refly Harun Protests Arrest of Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa by Metro Jaya Police
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The legal counsel for Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa, Refly Harun, has lodged a strong protest against the actions of investigators from the General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, who arrested and detained both of his clients. Refly considers the police action unprofessional, given that the case ensnaring his clients lies in a legal grey area, namely regarding alleged defamation and slander over the authenticity of a former head of state’s diploma, a matter that remains disputed. “We are mounting defences for our clients, so what the Metro Jaya Police investigators have done is, in my view, highly unprofessional, and we protest vehemently,” said Refly at Metro Jaya Police headquarters in Jakarta on Friday. According to him, detention in general criminal cases, such as murder or corruption, is very reasonable. However, for the case faced by Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa, the legal process is currently still at the stage of material proof. “What if the diploma is indeed genuinely fake? Moreover, the fake diploma hunting team has already reported several parties suspected of being involved in the production process. So, this is in the process of proof, and it is not certain that our clients are wrong. I am 99.9 percent certain the diploma is fake,” Refly asserted. He revealed that Doctor Tifa was arrested on Friday morning while preparing to leave for an examination. “At 08.00 WIB she was due to sit an exam, at 07.00 WIB she was arrested. Even though she was already preparing to go somewhere for that exam,” Refly disclosed. Meanwhile, the arrest process for former Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Roy Suryo reportedly occurred in the early hours after he had finished an activity in Bandung, West Java. Refly said the arrest was carried out suddenly when Roy Suryo had just completed his dawn prayers. “Mas Roy said he had no time for anything, fortunately he still managed to perform the dawn prayer. So, he had not bathed, had not dressed properly, and was then taken to Metro Jaya Police. Because both our clients did not want to cause a commotion, they ultimately went along without signing the arrest warrant,” said Refly. Previously, information circulated from the Advocacy Team Against the Criminalisation of Academics & Activists (TA-AKAA) stating that on Friday, 19 June 2026, at around 07.00 WIB, Roy Suryo Notodiprojo was reported by his wife to have been arrested by Metro Jaya Police investigators. Meanwhile, the Doctor Tifa Defence Team (TPDT) explained that Doctor Tifa was arrested by police officers at her apartment on Friday morning at around 06.47 WIB.
