Refly Harun Confirms Roy Suryo Arrested by Polda Metro Jaya Over Alleged Fake Diploma Case Against Jokowi
Legal counsel for Roy Suryo, Refly Harun, has confirmed that his clients, Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa, have been detained by Polda Metro Jaya investigators in the case concerning allegations of a fake diploma belonging to Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi). The two were arrested separately, on Thursday (18/6) evening and Friday (19/6) morning.
Refly revealed that he last met Roy Suryo between 00:30 and 01:00 WIB after attending an event in Bandung. A few hours after that meeting, Roy was reportedly picked up by investigators. “Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa have been arrested. Please pray for them,” Refly stated regarding his clients’ situation on Friday (19/6).
Refly said Roy did not have much time to prepare before being taken to Polda Metro Jaya. He noted that Roy was detained just after completing his dawn prayers. “Mr Roy told me when I met him in the Sub-Directorate of State Security room that he didn’t have time for anything, thankfully he still managed to perform the dawn prayer. So he hadn’t showered, wasn’t dressed properly, and was then forced to be taken to Polda Metro,” Refly said.
Refly also conveyed that his client did not sign the arrest warrant. He argued that such an arrest should not be carried out in a case that is still legally contested. “We protest strongly, yes, our strong protest. And once again, if this were related to, say, a murder case, a corruption case, and so on, it would make sense to be arrested and detained,” he stated.
As of now, Polda Metro Jaya has not provided an official statement regarding the arrests. However, Polda Metro Jaya previously stated that the case file implicating Roy Suryo and Tifauziah Tyassuma in the alleged fake diploma accusations against President Jokowi has been declared complete, or P-21, by the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office. Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, said the prosecutor has stated that they no longer require the fulfilment of any deficiencies in the file from investigators. “Alhamdulillah, as of today the prosecutor has stated that the case file we sent to the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office no longer requires fulfilment of the deficiencies that we previously completed,” Iman said at Polda Metro Jaya on Tuesday (2/6).
