Reflection for the nation

From Kompas

Latest developments in our society, such as anti-American
demonstrations taking place in various major cities of Indonesia,
should give the nation ample reason for concern. The mass
protests have even turned violent with the destruction of what
protesters believed to be American property and clashes with
security forces. The Indonesian government through the
Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Jusuf Kalla and staff
has taken a commendable step by providing financial aid and
sending medical personnel to Afghanistan.

This action mirrors the nation's attitude toward the innocent
civilians of Afghanistan as victims of U.S. air strikes. Such
assistance is far more significant and beneficial to the Afghan
people than mere demonstrations, which often entail clashes with
the security forces. As a nation we should show our sense of
humanity by adopting concrete measures rather than rhetoric, let
alone "sweeping" of foreign facilities.
