JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia is not in a bad condition. “Our country is not doing that bad (our country is not in that bad a condition). Right? We also have to be fair,” said Prabowo during a dialogue with several figures and journalists in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, as quoted from a video shared by the Presidential Secretariat on Sunday (22/3/2026). The head of state urged the public not to immediately assume the worst about Indonesia. Prabowo also highlighted incidents of violence occurring in other countries. “We shouldn’t be too quick to say that everything in Indonesia is bad; that’s not true. If you go to many countries, on the train you get robbed, you get beaten, just because of your race,” he said. According to him, social problems occur in many countries, including the US. “You’re disappointed with our police; if you look at the police in America, ICE, Black Lives Matter, innocent people get shot, right? These are social problems everywhere,” he said. He mentioned that the number of police in the country totals hundreds of thousands. Many of them perform well. Nevertheless, he did not deny that there are a few naughty elements. “But I catch them. We have 400,000 police, many who work hard, many who work well. There are rogue elements,” he said. Therefore, Prabowo emphasised that this must be fixed, and the government is working on it. “In all our bureaucracy, there are many things that are not right. Yes, we want to try; we hope that the coming generations will be better,” said Prabowo.
