PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto has stated that the deployment of 8,000 peacekeeping troops to Gaza must be conducted through the United Nations (UN).

“In our tradition of troop deployment, peacekeeping forces have always gone through the UN,” said Hasto in the Gelora Bung Karno area, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, 15 February 2026.

According to him, when the UN fails to resolve issues in the Middle East, Indonesia must be capable of rallying solidarity among Asian, African and Latin American nations.

Hasto said PDIP disagrees with the establishment of a Board of Peace outside the UN framework. “Rather than forming a new body outside UN mechanisms. That is what PDI Perjuangan expects,” he said.

Previously, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi revealed that the Indonesian government is still finalising plans to deploy peacekeeping troops as part of its commitment to the Board of Peace (BoP). He estimated that approximately 8,000 TNI personnel would be sent.

“It is still being discussed, but there is a possibility we will be looking at roughly 8,000,” said Prasetyo in Jakarta, as quoted from Antara on Tuesday, 10 February 2026.
