Jakarta (ANTARA) - Referees from West Java dominate the list of candidates for the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) Referee of the Year 2026 award, after officiating many tight matches during the regular season.

A total of four out of the five nominees come from Perbasi Jabar, namely Budi Marfan, Rendi Putra Dwiantino, Yosep Norida, and Rendra Lesmana, while the last is a representative from East Java (Jatim), Arnaz Anggoro.

“The five nominated referees were selected based on assessments by league officials,” said IBL Director Junas Miradiarsyah in Jakarta on Saturday.

Junas said that to determine the nominations for the award, the league management created several guidelines. The first is the ranking of referees assessed based on their performance during regular season matches. In addition, he added, the nominations are determined based on assessments by referee coaches during the regular season. Junas added that each nominated referee has officiated at least nine games in the regular season. Another consideration that influences the assessment is the referee’s ability to handle complaints from teams during the match. Candidates who successfully pass the screening stage by the IBL, he added, are eligible to be selected through a subsequent process. For this award, the selection and assessment are carried out by referee assessors and the IBL, voting by head coaches from each participating club, and 10 basketball analysts and media representatives.
