Reduced Visibility: Haze Affects Flights at Sultan Thaha Airport Jambi

Haze has affected flight operations at Sultan Thaha Airport in South Jambi District, Jambi City, Jambi, on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.

This was conveyed by the General Manager of Sultan Thaha Airport Jambi, Ardon Marbun, after visibility in the airport area declined in the afternoon.

He said visibility at the airport fluctuated between 14.00 WIB and 15.00 WIB.

Based on monitoring, visibility at 14.00 WIB was recorded at 1,500 metres, then decreased to 1,000 metres at 14.30 WIB, and dropped further to 800 metres at 15.00 WIB.

“Visibility subsequently improved to 1,200 metres,” said Ardon on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.

The decline in visibility caused two flights scheduled to land at Sultan Thaha Airport Jambi to be diverted to other airports.

“The reduction in visibility had a direct impact on aircraft arrival schedules, resulting in two flights being diverted,” he said.

Garuda Indonesia flight GA 128 on the Jakarta (CGK)–Jambi (DJB) route, scheduled to arrive at 13.40 WIB, was diverted to Hang Nadim Airport in Batam.

Meanwhile, Citilink flight QG 966 on the Jakarta–Jambi route, scheduled to arrive at 15.20 WIB, was diverted to Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport in Palembang.

Ardon said that as of the time the report was delivered, there were no delays to flights departing from Sultan Thaha Airport Jambi.

He urged prospective passengers to continue monitoring flight information through their respective airlines, given that visibility conditions can change at any time.

The haze blanketing several areas of Jambi Province in recent days has occurred amid efforts to tackle forest and land fires in a number of local areas.

The situation is a cause for concern because visibility is one of the key factors in the safety and smooth operation of flights, particularly when aircraft are landing.
