Jakarta – The chairman of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Khoirudin has stated that the Jakarta Regional Vocational Training Centre (PPKD) requires expansion to reduce unemployment rates, particularly given that the PPKD currently trains only 700-1,000 residents annually.

“The capacity is still insufficient; at most, around 700 to 1,000 people can be trained in a year, whilst over 5,000 have already registered,” Khoirudin said in Jakarta on Friday.

According to him, unemployment in Jakarta remains a problem that has not been adequately addressed, which he linked to gang violence occurring across the city.

For this reason, Khoirudin stated that his office has visited and monitored the PPKD to assess the progress of the vocational training facility.

He explained that the types of vocational training offered at PPKD are highly varied, including welding, automotive, languages, and other disciplines. The PPKD currently offers 10 specialisations with 24 training programmes.

“If unemployment in Jakarta decreases by 50 per cent, the economy will grow. Because there is so much unemployment, gang violence is occurring everywhere,” Khoirudin said.

He added that the presence of the PPKD also assists companies in terms of educating prospective employees, as graduates from the PPKD are assured to have competence in their respective fields.

He emphasised in a pre-budget planning meeting for the Regional Government Work Plan (RPKD) that his office has requested increased budget allocations for the PPKD.

“So that the public genuinely feels the direct impact of the budget allocated by the government,” Khoirudin stated.
