In Jakarta, BNPB’s steering element Prof Basuki Supartono opened the Pentahelix Disaster Risk Reduction event at UPN Veteran Jakarta on Monday, 18 May 2026. The activity is part of strengthening community preparedness to face various potential disasters in Indonesia. The activity was organised through collaboration between BPBD DKI Jakarta, Kelurahan Pondok Labu in South Jakarta, and UPN Veteran Jakarta. About 70 participants attended, consisting of residents of Kelurahan Pondok Labu and students of UPN Veteran Jakarta. The event took place in an educational, participatory, and collaborative atmosphere. In his address, Basuki emphasised the importance of strengthening community preparedness from the kelurahan level. He said Indonesia needs a disaster-aware culture built systematically and sustainably. He explained that disaster risk reduction cannot be done only during emergencies. Mitigation must be reinforced through education, training, and cross-sector collaboration. The approach is considered important for a country with a high disaster risk like Indonesia. Basuki also emphasised the importance of the Pentahelix approach in national disaster risk reduction. The approach strengthens synergy between government, academia, business, communities, and the media. The collaboration is expected to strengthen community resilience in facing disaster threats.
