Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Redmi Note 17 has appeared in the GSMA IMEI database, confirming that development of the next generation Note Series smartphones is underway and that its launch may be faster than usual.

Reported by Gizmochina on Thursday (21/5) local time, the GSMA entry reveals three variants of the Redmi Note 17 with model codes 26012RN62L, 26012RN62Y, and 26012RN62A. The registrations indicate the phones are prepared for global markets and Latin America.

However, so far there are no signs of a China- or India-specific version, even though both are major markets for the Redmi Note line.

Typically, the Redmi Note series is introduced late in the year, but the GSMA IMEI database indicates that the Redmi Note 17 series could launch sooner than its predecessor.

It is reported that the company wants to align numbering across the smartphone family, which is likely the reason for using the Redmi Note 17 name instead of ‘Note 16’.

Details of the phone’s specifications are still limited. However, the standard Redmi Note 17 model is expected to be the most affordable variant and is likely to be focused more on 4G rather than a high-end 5G device.

Previously, leaks about the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max suggested the device could come with a large 7-inch display, a jumbo battery close to 10,000mAh, support for fast charging up to 100W, and a 200MP main camera on certain variants.
