Reddit Accessible Again in Indonesia After 11-Year Block, Says Komdigi
The Reddit website is once again accessible in Indonesia without the need for a VPN or any special settings.
As of Thursday (2/7/2026) afternoon, monitoring shows that both the Reddit website and application are functional across various internet connections in Indonesia. Tests conducted via the Chrome browser on a laptop and the official Reddit app on mobile devices demonstrated smooth performance. The Reddit homepage loads normally, allowing users to log in, view posts, scroll, and interact within various communities without hindrance.
“Komdigelse (Komdigi) has granted approval for the normalisation of access to reddit.com after undergoing an audience process and an investigation into compliance with applicable regulations in Indonesia,” said the Director General of Digital Space Supervision at Komdigi, Alexander Sabar, when contacted by CNBC Indonesia on Thursday (2/7/2026).
Furthermore, Alex stated that based on the investigation results, Reddit has implemented geoblocking for the Indonesian region and has carried out access restrictions and/or the removal of illegal content, such as gambling, pornography, and other content that violates Indonesian laws and regulations.
Moving forward, Reddit is required to register its entity as a Private Scope Private Electronic System Provider (PSE) and must continue to fulfil its compliance obligations under existing regulations. Should illegal content accessible in Indonesia be discovered in the future, Komdigi will take enforcement measures in accordance with applicable provisions.
For context, Reddit was first blocked by the Indonesian government around 2015 because it was deemed to contain content that did not comply with the country’s internet censorship regulations.
Reddit itself is an online forum and community platform established in 2005 in the United States. The site is frequently dubbed “The Front Page of the Internet” as it serves as a hub for discussions on various topics from around the world.
