Red Talks to Launch, Inviting Youth to Explore Nationalism in the Modern Era

Amidst rapid globalisation and digital advancement, the meaning of nationalism continues to evolve. The younger generation faces various challenges, from social change and technological development to economic uncertainty, requiring them to adapt without losing their identity as Indonesians. There remains a need for open dialogue spaces that bring together different perspectives on national issues, not only as a forum for exchanging ideas but also to generate new thinking relevant to the times. Driven by this spirit, the East Java Regional Leadership Council of PDI Perjuangan, together with detikcom, will present Red Talks, a public dialogue forum themed ‘Indonesia is Ours: A Generation’s Nationalism Without Boundaries’. The forum is designed as a discussion space bringing together students, activists, academics, cultural figures, youth leaders, and various community elements to convey ideas, criticism, and self-reflection openly and constructively. Through cross-generational dialogue, Red Talks is expected to become a platform for fresh ideas as well as reflection on the nation’s journey amidst current challenges. Beyond discussing the meaning of nationalism in the digital era, the forum will also address issues close to the lives of young people, including the importance of building self-reliance and competitiveness amid economic uncertainty, the dynamics of politics and democracy in Indonesia, and the role of the younger generation in bringing about positive change for the nation. Red Talks also aims to foster a healthy discussion culture through the delivery of criticism and self-criticism on various national issues, including political practices and the role of political parties in meeting public expectations. With an open and inclusive approach, the forum is expected to enrich perspectives and encourage strategic recommendations for Indonesia’s development. The spirit of intellectualism, youth leadership, and the national values inherited by Bung Karno will also be a common thread in the discussions. Through cross-generational idea exchange, Red Talks invites young people not just to be spectators, but to actively participate in formulating ideas for Indonesia’s future. Packaged as an interactive talk show, Red Talks will feature two-way dialogue between speakers and participants. The discussion will not only be a space for sharing views but will also open opportunities for participants to submit questions, input, and criticism directly. At the end of the forum, the various ideas developed are expected to be summarised into national reflections and recommendations. Red Talks will soon be held at the Malang Creative Center on Saturday, 25 July 2026.
