Red Light for Drought Disaster: BMKG Issues Warning for Jakarta, Here is the Current Situation
As the dry season hits Jakarta, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has begun monitoring the potential for meteorological drought and distributing clean water assistance to affected residents.
The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) DKI Jakarta has issued several early warning notices regarding weather conditions in the capital. One of these concerns the potential for meteorological drought, which could impact the availability of clean water.
In the Atmospheric Dynamics Analysis for the first ten days of September 2026, released by BMKG on 14 September 2026, the agency placed DKI Jakarta in the group of Indonesian provinces under a high-level drought warning. West Java and Banten, being the provinces closest to Jakarta, are also included in this category.
The local government has begun documenting areas experiencing drought based on community reports. The Head of the Economic Development Section of Pondok Labu, Syachil, stated that they are continuously monitoring resident reports, including those submitted via the JAKI application.
“We are striving to document local RT or RW [neighbourhood units], and we continue to monitor reports from the community, particularly through the JAKI application. Fortunately, we are being assisted by the BPBD and PAM JAYA. Yesterday, water assistance was directly delivered,” Syachil told CNBC Indonesia.
Based on preliminary data, the drought in Pondok Labu is reported to have affected three households in RW 08 and one household in RW 05. Clean water assistance was subsequently distributed to meet the needs of the affected residents.
Meanwhile, according to observations by CNBC Indonesia, PPSU officers in Pondok Labu are routinely watering plants. This activity is optimised in the morning before 08:00 WIB using water tankers and automatic irrigation systems to ensure plants remain well-maintained during the dry season.
Watering is being carried out to maintain plant health and to help reduce dust and air pollution.
