Red Bird's Eye Chilli Prices Today, 26 March 2026, Drop, Positive Signal but Not Yet Widespread
The price of red bird’s eye chillies today, 26 March, has dropped. Data from the Strategic Food Price Information Centre (PIHPS) on Thursday (26/3) shows that the national price of red bird’s eye chillies is around Rp87,450 per kilogram, lower than the previous Rp100,000 per kg.
“Overall, prices of several food commodities are beginning to show a downward trend, such as chillies which previously reached up to around Rp140,000 per kilogram and are now around Rp90,000 per kg. In some areas, it is around Rp40,000 per kg,” said Researcher from the Center of Reform on Economics (CORE) Indonesia, Eliza Mardian, in Jakarta on Thursday (26/3).
According to her, the gradual decline in red bird’s eye chilli prices after Eid al-Fitr 2026 is a positive signal, although it is not yet widespread across all regions.
Eliza stated that the drop in red chilli prices indicates a smooth supply of staple goods in the market.
Nevertheless, she noted that food prices after Eid are not uniform. She exemplified that rice prices remain relatively stable. Meanwhile, red onion prices have risen due to supply disruptions from the Eid holidays.
“Red onion prices have increased because Eid caused a harvest holiday period, limiting supply to major markets,” Eliza explained.
Additionally, she mentioned that extreme weather also contributes to price hikes and affects onion production at the farmer level.
The weather has caused crop failures, reducing onion supply in the market. Furthermore, public mobility during the exodus home also impacts food distribution.
“There are distribution obstacles due to the exodus, prioritising traffic for people over goods,” she stated.
