Red Bird's Eye Chilli Prices Today, 23 March 2026, Exceed Rp100,000 per Kilo in Purwokerto
Entering H+2 of Eid al-Fitr 2026 on Monday (23/3), red bird’s eye chilli prices today, 23 March 2026, are still high in Purwokerto, Central Java. This situation has led the local community to reduce purchases and consumption of chillies on average. Based on observations at several traditional markets, red bird’s eye chilli is sold at an average price of Rp120,000 to Rp125,000 per kilogram. This price has persisted since H-2 of Eid al-Fitr. Sarni, 50, a trader at Purwosari Market in Baturaden Subdistrict, said that under normal conditions, the red bird’s eye chilli commodity is sold around Rp40,000 per kilogram. A week before the Eid al-Fitr celebration, chilli prices began to climb to Rp100,000 per kilogram. Then, two days before the celebration, red bird’s eye chilli prices jumped to Rp120,000 per kilogram. “Up to now, on Monday (23/3), the chilli price is still Rp120,000 per kilogram; it hasn’t dropped from there,” she said. According to her, the high chilli prices have caused most buyers to reduce their purchases. Those who usually buy a quarter to one kilogram now only buy around half an ounce to one ounce. “In fact, most buy half of half an ounce because the price is so expensive and the economy is tough,” she said. Amis, 45, a food trader, admitted to being forced to raise food prices since Eid. The reason is that, besides chillies, prices of other food commodities have also experienced quite significant increases since Eid. “On average, food traders have raised prices by Rp3,000 per portion because the raw material prices are indeed expensive,” he said.
