Red and White Decorations Adorn Parliament Ahead of Joint Session

Preparations for the annual session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the joint session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) on 14 August 2026 are ongoing. Based on observations at the Parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (11/8/2026), decorations such as red and white flags and ornaments have begun to be installed along the building. Red carpets have also been laid in the corridors of the Nusantara Building, where the President, Vice President, and heads of institutions will arrive.

Acting Secretary-General of the DPR, Suprihartini, stated that a coordination meeting with protocol officials from various ministries and institutions was held today to confirm the attendance of leaders at the 2026 annual session. “We have also carried out all preparations and received direction from the leadership, both from the MPR, DPR, and DPD leaders. Today, the DPR Secretary-General held a meeting with all ministry/institution protocol officers to ensure that the attendance of invited guests can be confirmed before the day of the event,” Suprihartini told reporters on Tuesday (11/8/2026).

Suprihartini mentioned that a preliminary rehearsal for the annual session will take place tomorrow, Wednesday (12/8), followed by a full dress rehearsal on Thursday (13/8). She explained that the joint session on Friday (14/8) will begin at 08:30 WIB and is expected to conclude before Friday prayers. The event will resume at 14:30 WIB for the plenary meeting on the draft state budget (RAPBN).

“The morning session is scheduled to start at 08:30 and finish around 10:47 WIB, hopefully on schedule so it ends before Friday prayers,” Suprihartini said. “The plenary meeting on the RAPBN will then begin at 14:30. The long break is to accommodate Friday prayers and a lunch break before the second session, which is expected to conclude after 16:00.”

Suprihartini noted that while the coordination process remains similar to previous years, this year’s joint session will feature eight representatives who are beneficiaries of government programmes. “They will be seated in the balcony alongside exemplary figures and the best participants of the Youth Parliament programme,” she added.
