Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of the Indonesian State University Rectors’ Council (MRPTNI), Eduart Wolok, has stated his support for the government’s move to implement distance learning (PJJ) as a measure to save energy, but with adjustments at each individual campus.

“In principle, we continue to support the energy-saving campaign, and currently, each campus is in the process of preparing and adapting accordingly,” he said when met in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Eduart explained that PJJ cannot be implemented 100 per cent across the board, due to differences in the needs of each higher education institution and study programme.

One such example, the Rector of Gorontalo State University (UNG) continued, concerns practical laboratory activities.

Nevertheless, Eduart noted that coordination has been carried out, although no final decision has yet been reached in response to this policy.

Previously, during a cabinet meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday (13/3), President Prabowo Subianto urged measures to reduce fuel consumption and consider work-from-home (WFH) policies as an anticipation of the global crisis’s impact.

Subsequently, on Tuesday (17/3), the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, stated that the government is preparing energy-saving strategies in the public sector as a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s directives.

Adjustments to online and offline (luring) learning methods according to the characteristics of each subject are one of the main cross-agency energy-saving strategies agreed upon by the government.

To maintain educational quality, practical learning activities are still directed to be conducted face-to-face.
