Rector: Diversity is Indonesia's strong asset for world peace diplomacy

Indonesia has extensive experience in nurturing a pluralistic society. Rector of UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh, Prof Dr Mujiburrahman, assessed that Indonesia’s experience in managing diversity is a strong asset for diplomacy in building world peace. “Indonesia has a long experience in caring for a pluralistic society. This experience can become a diplomatic model based on humanitarian values and respect for differences,” Mujiburrahman said in Banda Aceh on Tuesday. He explained that the idea of diversity as an asset for Indonesian diplomacy is also written in “Diplomasi Agama: Jalan Damai Nasaruddin Umar” (Religious Diplomacy: Nasaruddin Umar’s Path to Peace), which was launched at the Rukun Festival 2026 in Jakarta. He stated that Indonesia’s experience in nurturing diversity is an important asset worth offering to the world as a model for peaceful coexistence. The book “Diplomasi Agama: Jalan Damai Nasaruddin Umar” is a collaborative work containing the thoughts of 24 Indonesian academics, rectors, professors, and intellectuals on religious diplomacy as an instrument for building global peace. The book develops the ideas of the Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof Dr KH Nasaruddin Umar MA, regarding the role of religion in strengthening interfaith dialogue, humanitarian values, and cooperation between nations. Mujiburrahman added that the book also includes writings by a number of academics from various universities, including Masnun Tahir, Maimun, Idi Warsah, Rosihon Anwar, Agustinus, Abdurrohman Kasdi, Wan Jamaluddin Z., Lukman Hakim, and Toto Suharto. The writings in the book discuss religious diplomacy from various perspectives, such as religious humanism, religious moderation, interfaith dialogue, interpretation, and civilisational diplomacy.
