Recruitment Process for Patriot Expedition Team Expected to be Transparent, Objective, Professional, and Accountable
The Minister of Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhammad Iftuitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, has requested that all partner universities involved in the recruitment of the 2026 Patriot Expedition Team (TEP) ensure that the recruitment and announcement processes are conducted transparently, objectively, professionally, and accountably. The Ministry of Transmigration has placed full trust in partner universities to execute the recruitment process in accordance with the academic standards, professionalism, and integrity of their respective institutions.
Universities are also requested to openly disclose the criteria, mechanisms, and principles used in the recruitment process. The Minister of Transmigration emphasised that there are no directives, interventions, or special requests regarding the passing of specific participants. “The Patriot Expedition Team is not looking for participants with the strongest access or connections, but rather participants who possess the best capacity to serve Indonesia. It is better to lose a participant with connections than to lose the best participant with capacity,” said Minister Iftitah.
He also requested that all documents and assessment results be well-documented as a form of process accountability and for the purposes of evaluation, verification, and program refinement in the future. He further reminded that not being selected does not imply a lack of competence, but is rather a consequence of the high number of qualified applicants compared to the available quota.
It is noted that the 2026 TEP recruitment has garnered extraordinary enthusiasm from Indonesia’s youth. By the close of registration, 10,359 participants from nearly 1,992 universities across Indonesia had applied for the programme. Meanwhile, the available quota consists of approximately 1,230 participants and 246 team leaders.
As a form of programme sustainability, all applicants will remain engaged through the ‘Sahabat Patriot’ Community, which will serve as a platform for learning, capacity building, collaboration, and service for the Indonesian youth. “All applicants are national assets. The only difference is the opportunity and the timing of their service,” said the Minister of Transmigration.
According to Minister Iftitah, the success of the Patriot Expedition Team Programme is measured not only by the number of participants deployed but also by the ability to maintain public trust in the process. The high number of applicants, the Minister added, demonstrates that the spirit of leadership, mutual cooperation, and service continues to grow strongly among Indonesia’s youth.
