Recruiters entice Indonesian migrant worker candidates with Rp 10 million monthly salary for online gambling admin role in Cambodia
TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com - Recruiter LA enticed Indonesian migrant worker candidates (CPMI) with a monthly salary of Rp 10 million for an online gambling admin position in Cambodia.
Head of Criminal Investigation at Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Station, Police Commissioner Yandri Mono, stated that victims identified as AG from Garut and SP from North Jakarta were recruited by LA through a WhatsApp group named ‘Liburaaannnnn’.
“During questioning, both admitted to being recruited via social media and the WhatsApp group ‘Liburaaannnnn’,” Yandri said in a written statement on Thursday (28 May 2026).
They also lacked migrant worker protection documents, did not undergo job training, pre-departure briefings, or insurance coverage.
This led to police preventing their departure to Cambodia.
The case came to light following a report about two female CPMI departing through Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Saturday (17 January 2026).
They were due to fly via TransNusa from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur before continuing to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Further investigation revealed the suspected involvement of a woman identified as LA, now listed as a person of interest (DPO).
LA, a native of Bangka Belitung, acted as a recruiter and organiser of illegal CPMI departures to Cambodia.
However, after her activities were uncovered by police, she is believed to have fled abroad.
“RR is suspected of arranging travel tickets, directing departure procedures, and connecting CPMI with those assisting with check-in and immigration checks at the airport,” Yandri said.
RR admitted receiving Rp 500,000 for assisting with departure procedures.
Police seized two CPMI passports and boarding passes for flights to Kuala Lumpur and Phnom Penh.
“We have submitted a Red Notice to Interpol for further action,” Wisnu said.
Those involved face charges under Article 83 in conjunction with Article 68 and/or Article 81 in conjunction with Article 69 of Law No. 18 of 2017 on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, with a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of up to Rp 15 billion.
