Recreational beaches a rarity

Recreational beaches a rarity

From Warta Kota

There are very few beaches left in Jakarta, which people can enjoy free of charge. Beaches in the city have now become commercial places, run by business interests. To relax at the beach people are now forced to spend money.

The Jakarta administration should provide opportunities for people, in particular its residents, to enjoy beaches free of charge.

Families should not have to pay expensive tickets every time they visit a beach. Ancol Beach is the only beach in the city where family members can chat and bathe in the sea for fun. In contrast, the beach located in Ancol Dreamland Park can only be appreciated by some walks of life.

Our country is an archipelago with millions of kilometers of beaches. It is ironic that the public here cannot appreciate the city's beaches, which are public facilities. East Ancol Beach is an exception in that it can be savored freely by all walks of life.

If the city councilors take sides with the public interest, they should certainly nod their agreement to East Ancol Beach becoming a public recreational beach.
