JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The recovery of the condition of Wakil Koordinator KontraS, Andrie Yunus, from burns due to being doused with acid is said to take up to two years.

This was stated by the leadership of Komnas HAM based on the doctor’s statement after visiting Andrie at Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM), Central Jakarta, on Thursday (26/3/2026).

“It will take six months to two years ahead for 100 percent recovery of his burns,” said Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin Siagian to reporters.

Saurlin said that Andrie will continue to undergo surgery to restore his condition.

“The focus of recovery will be carried out in these six months. Surgeries will continue,” he said.

Meanwhile, Komnas HAM Commissioner Pramono Ubaid stated that so far, RSCM is still analysing the development of Andrie’s eye condition and cannot yet draw conclusions.

In addition to gathering facts from RSCM doctors, Komnas HAM will also seek statements from various other parties.

When asked about the possibility of seeking statements from former Head of TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) Yudi Abrimantyo, Pramono could not yet confirm.

“In the next few days, Komnas HAM will seek statements and it is very likely that we will invite him to the Komnas HAM office later,” said Pramono.

In addition, Komnas HAM has not yet been able to conclude whether this acid dousing case constitutes a gross human rights violation or not.

“Whether it is proven as a human rights violation or not, we will decide after the process of collecting statements, information, and data from various parties is completed,” Pramono explained.

The acid dousing case against Andrie Yunus has now entered a new phase after four soldiers from the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) were secured in connection with alleged involvement in the incident.

This development has also led to the resignation of BAIS TNI Head Yudi Abrimantyo as a form of accountability.

This step was taken amid public spotlight on the handling of the case involving military apparatus.
