Reconstruction of Tendean Pedestrian Bridge Remains Uncertain

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the Data and Information Centre (Pusdatin) of the Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, Siti Dinarwenny, stated that her office cannot yet confirm the reconstruction of the pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean, South Jakarta. According to her, the agency will first prepare a technical plan for the bridge’s reconstruction in accordance with applicable regulations. “Because this process requires further study, the timeline for the reconstruction cannot be confirmed at this time,” Wenny said on Tuesday. She further explained that the Bina Marga Agency’s current priority is to dismantle the bridge as quickly as possible so that traffic can return to normal. Regarding liability for the losses incurred, Wenny explained that there is currently no agreement or compensation mechanism from the company that owns the truck transporting the bore pile equipment. As a result of the incident, the Jakarta Bina Marga Agency estimates material losses reaching billions of rupiah. In addition to damage to government assets, Siti said the incident also caused social losses, namely disruption to public mobility because the pedestrian bridge cannot be used and traffic flow around the bridge is obstructed. The Jakarta Bina Marga Agency has urged all drivers, especially those operating oversized vehicles or transporting heavy equipment, to always comply with vehicle height restrictions and pay attention to applicable traffic signs. “Compliance with these regulations is expected to prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future,” Wenny stated.
