Reckless Driver in Central Jakarta: Fake Plates, No Driving Licence or Vehicle Registration
Police have revealed several facts regarding HM (25), the driver of a Toyota Calya who was driving recklessly and against traffic, causing multiple collisions in Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta. In addition to using fake number plates, HM did not possess a driving licence (SIM) or vehicle registration (STNK).
“The fake number plate used by the perpetrator was D-1640-AHB, which was attached to the vehicle,” said Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Thursday (26/2/2026).
Based on the examination of the vehicle’s chassis number and engine number, the vehicle was registered with the number plate B-2932-BZF.
“There was no STNK, and he did not have a driving licence,” he said.
In addition, Budi Hermanto revealed that two sharp weapons and a toy revolver were found inside the perpetrator’s car.
“The driver of the Toyota Calya, with the initials HM, has been secured and is currently being questioned further,” he added.
Named as a Suspect
Police have named the driver of the car, with the initials HM (25), as a suspect after his reckless driving and driving against traffic caused multiple collisions in Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta.
“He has been named as a suspect,” said Head of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung, when confirmed separately on Thursday (26/2).
Meanwhile, Head of Traffic of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Komarudin, said that the suspect was charged with Article 311 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transport (Traffic Law).
“For the traffic case itself, we are charging the perpetrator with Article 311, paragraphs 1, 2, and 3, for driving a vehicle in a manner that endangers other road users. If it reaches paragraph 3, the penalty is up to 4 years in prison,” said Komarudin.
Article 311 states:
Anyone who intentionally drives a Motor Vehicle in a manner or condition that endangers the lives or property of others shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 1 (one) year or a maximum fine of Rp3,000,000 (three million rupiah).
In the event that the act as referred to in paragraph (1) results in a Traffic Accident with damage to Vehicles and/or goods as referred to in Article 229 paragraph (2), the perpetrator shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 2 (two) years or a maximum fine of Rp4,000,000 (four million rupiah).
In the event that the act as referred to in paragraph (1) results in a Traffic Accident with minor injuries and damage to Vehicles and/or goods as referred to in Article 229 paragraph (3), the perpetrator shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 4 (four) years or a maximum fine of Rp8,000,000 (eight million rupiah).
In addition to the traffic violations, the suspect HM will also be investigated for other possible crimes, including the alleged forgery of the number plates and the possession of sharp weapons and a toy gun.
“The Central Jakarta Criminal Investigation Unit is currently investigating these other findings,” he said.
