Reckless Driver Drives Against Traffic in Central Jakarta, Collides with Vehicles, and is Apprehended
A video of a driver driving against traffic and colliding with several vehicles on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta, went viral on social media. Several citizens were angry and attacked the car, trying to stop it, until the driver was finally apprehended.
As reported by detikcom on Thursday (26/2/2026), the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon (25/2). Based on the circulating video, the car is seen driving in the opposite direction. The car collided with several motorcycles and attempted to avoid the crowd of citizens who were attacking it.
Several citizens chased the car, breaking its windows. However, the car continued to drive forward and backward in an attempt to escape, eventually colliding with a police car. After some time, the car was surrounded and stopped by citizens.
The incident occurred at around 17:20 WIB yesterday afternoon. The accident began when the car was driving from north to south. “Upon arriving near the Lapangan Banteng bus stop, when the officers tried to stop it, the vehicle continued to drive and continued south,” said the Head of Traffic at the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Arry Utomo.
Then, upon arriving at Jalan Gunung Sahari IV, the vehicle turned in the opposite direction. The vehicle then drove onto Jalan Bungur Besar Raya.
“Upon arriving at Jalan Gunung Sahari V, the vehicle turned left, driving against traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari V towards the east until it reached the MBAL intersection and continued driving on Jalan DR Sutomo towards the east,” he said.
Upon arriving near the Bintang Baru Hotel, the vehicle turned towards the west. Then, it returned to the MBAL intersection and turned left onto Jalan Gunung Sahari towards the north.
“Until it reached the Pintu Besi intersection, the vehicle turned around, driving against traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari towards the south until it stopped near the Golden Truly bus stop due to the anger of the road users and drivers,” he said.
The driver of the car that drove against traffic and collided with several vehicles on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta, was apprehended after being chased by the crowd and the police at the location. In addition to the driver, the vehicle was also secured by the police.
“The driver and the vehicle were secured at the Central Jakarta Police,” said the Head of Traffic at the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Arry Utomo, on Wednesday (25/2/2026).
He said that there were no casualties or injuries in the incident. Meanwhile, the car sustained some damage.
“The minibus sustained damage to the rear body, broken windows, and a dented rear body,” he said.
